As an architectural technician for Perth & Kinross Council, Graham's job is varied - and very busy.

"One day I can be working on plans for a toilet block, and the next a multi-million pound school building," Graham explains. "I just wouldn't be able to get that kind of experience in many commercial jobs. Most of my work involves visiting and surveying sites, looking at existing council properties, and coming up with drawings and designs for the briefs we've been given. I also procure contractors and deal with the day-today running of construction sites."

Graham attended Bell Baxter school in Cupar, Fife and worked for four years at a private architecture firm in St Andrews, where he gained a HNC qualification in construction on day release at Dundee College.

His first project at Perth & Kinross Council involved the design and build of Fairview School in Perth, a new £6.5m state-of-the art school for pupils with assisted support needs.

"It was extremely rewarding to see this unique project through from the building site stage to when the staff and pupils moved in," Graham says. "The experience I have gained since coming to work at the council is huge."
