A bit about the role

Action for Children is thrilled to be leading an exciting new initiative — the Elgin Active Youth Engagement (AYE) Bus! This dynamic project brings together key partners including Stagecoach, the Elgin Neighbourhood Board, Moray Council Community Safety, Police Scotland, and the Moray Pathways Local Employability Partnership.

The AYE Bus — a double-decker mobile youth centre generously donated by Stagecoach — is part-funded for its first year by the Elgin Neighbourhood Board. This one-of-a-kind initiative is focused on early intervention and meaningful support for young people across Elgin, with the goal of fostering safer, more inclusive public spaces.

In addition to the AYE Bus, we offer a range of community services — from group activities for young people with neurodiversities to family support and a brand-new transitions worker role supporting young people entering or leaving care and navigating other key life changes. This role will offer exposure to all of these services.

We’re now looking for passionate, experienced Youth Workers who excel at building trusted, positive relationships with young people. Whether you're ready for a new challenge or eager to bring your skills to a mobile, community-based setting, this is your chance to make a real impact. You’ll deliver engaging sessions across Elgin, helping young people feel heard, supported, and empowered.

The AYE Bus role involves a flexible rota of day, evening, and weekend shifts, while other services are delivered during daytime hours — so adaptability is essential.

Come and help us shape the future of youth support in Moray — all aboard the AYE Bus!

How you'll help to create brighter futures

Some key responsibilities of the Youth Worker role are to;

· Develop and deliver engaging programmes that create positive opportunities for young people.

· Apply knowledge and understanding of the issues young people face, using appropriate approaches to support their wellbeing and development.

· Plan and facilitate multiple youth work sessions each week, mainly evenings and weekends, across locations in Elgin. This would also include some detached street work to meet needs of the service

· Provide support, in line with National Youth Work Standards, The Promise and GIRFEC for young people utilising the service, but also support and manage staff to ensure they uphold the values and standards directed.

· Develop and support creative, innovative ways to engage and sustain engagement with young people.

· Work with current and develop new methods of tracking progress of our work

Let's talk about you

· Youth work qualification is preferred but not essential.

· Experience working with young people, particularly in informal or outreach settings.

· Knowledge of local youth issues, including mental health, anti-social behaviour, and social exclusion

· Committed to safeguarding and child protection, with a working knowledge of policies and procedures

· Ability to record and report engagement work professionally and confidentially

· Driving licence and access to a car. The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
