Early Years Teacher / Pre-school Room Manager

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Early Years Teacher / Pre-school Room Manager to 3-5 Pre-school Department depending on the candidate’s experience. Candidate must hold or be willing to work towards SVQ Level 4, BA Childhood Practice or Teaching Qualification recognised by General Teaching Council – no other qualifications will be accepted for the position.

You must have successful experience in managing and leading a large team and experience of working in early years setting at senior/lead practitioner level. Responsible for 63 children, across 3 rooms and up to 7 qualified staff members and 1 modern apprentice. You must also be able to demonstrate experience of successfully delivering the Education Scotland guidance “Curriculum for Excellence” (for children aged 3-5 years) and be knowledgeable on most recent documents - Building the Ambition, My World Outdoors. You will be enthusiastic, reliable, self-motivated and committed to high levels of customer service with a proven ability to maintain positive and supportive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents. You will lead and motivate a growing team of practitioners, encouraging positive relationships, and the creation of a warm and stimulating environment for growing minds to develop.

Key elements of the post:

  • Closely working with Quality Improvement Officer and working towards an action plan along with Edinburgh City Council.
  • Effective use of Edinburgh Council toolkits and contribution towards self-evaluation across the nursery setting, using How Good is Our Early Learning and Childcare and Building the Ambition.
  • Responsible for completing planning for the children using Literacy, Numeracy etc, setting up weekly meetings with the staff based in Pre-school.
  • Contribution to annual SQIP for Pre-school and the setting.
  • Attending cluster meetings with the local authority.
  • Responsible for transitions for the children moving to Primary 1, ensuring all reports are completed and links with Primary schools are in place.
  • Hold regular Curriculum nights with the parents and carers to ensure they know what the children are learning about and focusing on.
  • Monitor and lead observations, key worker activities, learning journals and any other paperwork is accurate and up to date.
  • Plan, observe, evaluate and reflect on learning experiences for the children.
  • Ensure activities are age/stage appropriate and/or appropriate for the individual child.
  • Ensure that children are actively engaged in activities indoors and outdoors.
  • Ensure the health and safety, cleaning & outdoor checklists are carried out prior to the nursery opening and where applicable throughout the day.
  • Positively communicate with parents/guardians to ensure we are up to date with the child’s routine i.e. sleep patterns, mealtimes development etc.
  • Ensure floor books, self-evaluation, playroom practice observations are up to date and reflects the children's voice.
  • Work as part of a key worker system, ensuring you know your key children's individual needs, next steps and achievements.
  • Create a safe and stimulating learning environment and provide a high standard of care for the children.
  • Keep up to date with all Early Years documents, regulations, Child Acts, and new policies and procedures that are regularly changing.
