We are looking for a highly motivated, Assistant Registrar to join our Registrar team - responsible for registering births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships, still-births and British Citizenship. The individual must be willing to undertake the required distance learning within a specified time and have a strong attention to detail to ensure information is gathered and recorded to an incredibly high level of accuracy. Excellent communications skills and a genuine passion for delivering the best customer experience are also essential.

About the Role:

The purpose of this role is to assist in the delivery of the Aberdeen City Council Registrar service’s statutory activities on a day to day basis, ensuring  compliance with the Registrar General and the National Records of Scotland (NRS) governance and legislation, ensuring that customers receive the high-quality service required.  This role is primarily involved in the registering of births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships and British citizenship, all under the supervision of the Registrars and management of the Senior Registrar. The post holder will demonstrate excellent communication skills and customer service ethos, working to an incredibly high level of accuracy and ability to respond flexibly to quickly changing priorities.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

National 4/5 / Standard Grade / ‘O’ Grade pass in English or equivalent qualification

The post holder once trained will undertake weddings on a rota basis alongside others in the Registrars team.  This will involve weekend working.  An additional Registrar's Allowance is payable for weddings undertaken outside normal working hours.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

Office environment and procedures, including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office or equivalent
A high level of accuracy in recording information from a variety of sources
An ability to adhere to statutory deadlines
An ability to communicate effectively with customers over the telephone and face to face, including presentation and public speaking
Good Literacy and Numeracy skills
