Clerk of Works (Transport Contract & Design)
Salary: £26,393 - £31,484
Hours: 36 per week
Based at the Council’s headquarters, Waverley Court, you will be part of a team helping to manage and co-ordinate all on-site works associated with Edinburgh’s roads and footway renewal program.
The successful candidate will have: -
- Extensive experience of supervising and overseeing the construction of civil engineering projects to ensure that agreed specifications are met in full and the required quality standards are consistently achieved;
- Experience of inspecting roads and footways, incorporating associated apparatus, to assess their condition and safety, including identification of remedial works as required, reporting on standards of workmanship and compliance with national and local standards;
- Knowledge of Surfacing Dressing, Slurry/Micro-Surfacing processes and techniques;
- Experience in the management of projects, fostering contractual relationships, to deliver excellent value for the Council;
- Sufficient experience to ensure that all work is carried out with due regard for public safety and traffic flow requirements, utilising a working knowledge of Chapter 8 (Traffic Signs Manual) to empower the decision-making process and successfully minimise the disruption for road users, cyclists and pedestrians;
- Knowledge of major legislative and other issues facing local government, with a focus on achieving effective delivery of services at a time of significant change and financial challenges;
- A practical working knowledge and demonstrable experience of operating within the requirements of the Scottish Road Works Commissioner as set out by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991; the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 and the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005;
- A detailed knowledge of health and safety legislation in relation to the road construction and maintenance and detailed knowledge and demonstrable experience of operating in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and;
The salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
