Community Care Assistant - 6 month fixed term contract
Renal Unit and Scottish Liver Transplant Unit based at Royal Infirmary Edinburgh

Salary: £22,129 - £26,393
Hours: 36 per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Renal and SLTU teams based in the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.
The role will be split between the Renal Unit and the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit.
Due to the nature of the work and the need to travel across various hospital sites the
applicant must hold a current driving licence, Access to a pool car is available.
The focus of the role includes:
  • Supporting the work of the specialist social workers within the Renal and Scottish Liver Transplant Teams based at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.
  • Taking part in the duty system and responding to queries and assisting patients with urgent requests.
  • Attending information sharing clinics in the dialysis units in St John’s Hospital, West Lothian; Borders General Hospital in Melrose and Western General Hospital and Royal Infirmary Hospitals in Edinburgh.
  • Keeping in touch with patients who are on the waiting list for transplant or dialysis providing emotional support if necessary.
  • Attending support groups throughout Scotland if required.
  • Attending multi-agency meetings with the specialist social workers to agree practical support plans for patients and their families, including help at home.
  • Support with benefit applications, appeals and change of circumstances.
  • Charitable grant applications. These can be for financial assistance, white goods, furniture, household items, sheds for storage of dialysis equipment, holidays and specialist equipment etc.
  • Supporting families with housing issues including re-housing requests, adaptations to enable better home care, medical priority, council tax benefits etc
  • Support to access food banks. Support with accessing local authority schemes such as Blue Badges, Disabled Facilities Grants etc.
  • Referring, signposting and liaising with other agencies and professionals.
This is a new position within a CCA role based in RIE and the successful individual must have the ability to build positive and productive relationships. You will need to be highly proactive, and creative. You will need to have good organisational, analytical and processing skills with some assessment experience.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our
contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
