Roads Operations is the Council’s in-house maintenance delivery team who undertake a diverse range of roads maintenance functions including; Machine Surfacing, Patching, Kerbing & Slabbing, Drainage Works, Line Marking, Sign Erection, Flood Prevention and Winter Gritting.
As Roads Engineer you will be a key member of the Roads Operations team responsible for designing and co-ordinating both planned and reactive roads maintenance schemes throughout Scotland’s Capital City and across a broad range of technical areas.
You will report to the Senior Transport Team leader and alongside a group of Engineers, Technicians and Inspectors will identify, design and develop works packages and raise these on the council’s internal asset management system; whilst doing so, giving due consideration to Health and Safety and roads co-ordination.
You will be responsible for the development of works orders for the council’s in-house delivery teams as well as external contractors, registration of works on the SRWR, managing and responding to customer enquiries and complaints, and measuring up and recording of site works.
Applicants must be educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline or equivalent, with extensive knowledge and skills in that professional discipline post qualification. They should also have good IT skills and knowledge of construction specifications and processes associated with roads construction and maintenance. Experience of AutoCAD and the SRWR would be desirable.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
