Stores and Support Officer
Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Education

Salary: £21,697 - £21,979 per year
Hours: 36 per week 

Lagganlia is one of three centres that make up Outdoor Learning Edinburgh. This is  part of the Communities andFamilies Sports and Lifelong Learning Department. The team provide outdoor learning to the school children of Edinburgh City and other groups from charities, private schools, scouts/guides etc. For this reason, a Basic Disclosure is a requirement of the post.

The Stores and Support Officer is widely varied role that works in both the Stores and Facilities areas of Lagganlia Centre. There is a total of 1.75 posts in this job title at Lagganlia. The part time role (0.75) is already filled.  

The Facilities side of the job requires the individual to perform basic maintenance and servicing duties across the site on a daily basis. Basic skills in plumbing, joinery, electrics, sewage and decorating are essential.  

The stores section of this job role includes the distribution, collection, cleaning, maintenance and inspection of all Lagganlia’s Outdoor Equipment. This includes technical and protective equipment (PPE) forclimbing,sailing, canoeing, hill walking, skiing, rafting, mountain biking, camping and a range of onsite low-level activities. To enablethe monitoring and inspection process Lagganlia uses a system called “Papertrail”. Prior experience of using this program and a background knowledge of the equipment would be beneficial.

The biggest demand from any of the activities in stores is the maintenance and servicing of the mountain bike fleet. The candidate must have a good level of MTB servicing and maintenance experience and preferably have evidence of training such as Velotech Silver or Gold.

The role is also responsible for assisting with the Lagganliavehicle fleet. The fleet is ownedand managed by CEC Fleet Services in Russel Road. The role requires you to communicate with Fleet Services and manage the servicing schedule with the local garage. Lagganlia also has a fleet of trailers for various activities which requires a managed service schedule. The candidate therefore needs a current and clean driving licence with D1 and D1+E categories.

The role also requires Compliance Testing such as fire alarms, water quality safety and asbestos registers.

The grounds are serviced on a fortnightly basis by an external contractor but this role requires the individual to assist with small sections of gardening and strimming.   

The successful candidate will require a Basic Disclosure check conducted by Disclosure Scotland.   

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
