Depute Headteacher (1.0fte) (Permanent) (7/11110)
Dalbeattie High School
Head Teacher/Depute Scale Point 5 - £59,571

We are seeking to appoint a Depute Headteacher with vision and a passion for learning who will, along with the school management team, lead learning at Dalbeattie High School within the campus which aims to further develop cohesive learning from 2-18 years.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to shape educational provision within a dynamic school community which has high aspirations for all and enjoys a modern setting which is used by the wider community in Dalbeattie.

Dalbeattie High School is situated on the western fringe of Dalbeattie, in the valley of the River Urr, close to the Solway Firth in one of the most attractive areas of Dumfries and Galloway. A location amidst farmland with an outlook to the granite forested hills of the Stewartry beyond provides a magnificent setting for the school campus, which is shared with Dalbeattie Primary School. The secondary management structure consists of a Headteacher, two Depute Headteachers and a School Support Manager. The school benefits from a well-established Parent Council which is supportive of the life and work of the school. In addition to the excellent facilities within the school building, the school has full access to extensive playing fields and sports facilities which are integrated within the campus.

The town of Dalbeattie is the largest of the Stewartry towns with a population of around 4200 and is attracting additional population. The town is very picturesque and has the advantage of being close to the sea and the beautiful coastal villages of Kippford and Rockcliffe.  The area offers excellent opportunities for leisure and recreation. These include walking, on beaches, in forest and on hills, sailing, and fishing, cycling both on and off road, golf, tennis together with a range of indoor facilities in Dalbeattie. Dalbeattie High School serves some 350 pupils drawn from Dalbeattie and the surrounding communities of Beeswing, Caulkerbush, Colvend, Kippford, Kirkgunzeon, Rockcliffe and Palnackie.

Dumfries and Galloway’s approach to Education looks to combine the traditional values, ethos and atmosphere of this unique corner of Scotland with fresh 21st Century thinking. The post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in developing our culture of sharing and learning.  Our authority has been recognised as having a clear focus on building staff skills to improve learning and teaching, raise attainment and develop strong leadership.

Applicants will have proven leadership qualities and experience in secondary education and be committed to very high standards of achievement.
