We are seeking to appoint a permanent Principal Teacher Primary for 35 hours per week based at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School within Stranraer. 

St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School set in a Stranraer. There is a strong sense of community within and across the schools and staff work in a very supportive and collaborative way throughout both schools. 

The successful candidate can expect excellent opportunities for further professional development and the support of colleagues. We benefit from valuable links with our local community and church parish.

We are looking for a creative and innovative teacher to take forward the exciting developments around outdoor play / learning and become a leader of learning and teaching.

In line with Section 21 (2A) of the Education Scotland Act 1980, the successful candidate of this post will require to have the approval of the Roman Catholic Church. Applicants are advised that it is their responsibility to obtain such approval, and this must be done at the same time as submitting the application form. Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.  

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT – appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with Dumfries and Galloway Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue pay and leave.  In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and pay and leave will be adjusted.
