Social Worker (Fixed Term)

Dumfries & Galloway’s Family Placement Team are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join our team. This is a 36 hour per week post with annual salary outlined above. This is a region wide team providing a comprehensive service to kinship, foster and adoptive carers to help support the children and young people they care for.

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered social work professional to take on a challenging and stimulating role as a Family Placement Team Social Worker who will participate in the recruiting, assessing, and supervising of foster carers, adoptive carers and their families and offer support advice and guidance to kinship carers (when required).

The ideal candidate will be a committed and personable individual with current SSSC registration. In this role, you will offer professional advice, guidance, support and supervision to foster carers and adoptive parents and their families to sustain children and young people in their placements, ensuring that carers have support in the undertaking of training and on-going professional development. The Family Placement Team Social Worker will also undertake routine planned and un-planned visits to the carers.  

Good communication is essential between all relevant Local Authority stakeholders responsible for the welfare of the child or young person in placement. Contribution to the carer annual review process will also be required.

You will need the energy and enthusiasm to make significant contributions to the work of the team.  We have a strong commitment to learning, and professional development and offer regular student placements.  After two years’ post working in the team if you do not have a post qualifying award you will be supported to achieve this, either in Practice Teaching, Family Placement or Child Protection.

You will need to have worked in an area team social work team for two years and have excellent communication skills and a commitment to high quality practice. You will have the ability to prepare thorough assessments leading to recommendations based on the analysis of these.  You will be committed to evidence-based practice and will receive good support and regular supervision.

A DipSW/CQSW/CSS qualification or equivalent is essential as is registration with the Scottish Social Services Council. 

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

This post is fixed term for 18 months.  This post may be suitable for attachment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
