The post holder would be expected to work in the evenings and/or at the weekends from time to time and may require to take it in turn to be on call at the weekend.
The John Gray Centre opened in March 2010 gaining a 5 star grading from Visit Scotland shortly thereafter.
The John Gray Centre brings together East Lothian Council’s Archaeology, Museum, Archive and Local History Services, alongside Haddington’s branch library. The Centre is the result of a long-standing commitment by the Council to inspire the people of East Lothian to explore and engage with the history of their communities, environment and families by enhancing and further developing East Lothian Council’s heritage services.
The Library is the busiest of East Lothian’s 12 public libraries and is open 7 days per week. A variety of groups meet in the library, from clubs for children such as the Lego and Code club to an adult craft group and the Active Memories group. Haddington is an area of substantial growth and will have a new primary school opening soon. The successful candidate will be expected to reinforce and develop links with local schools and within the community.
As well as having responsibility for the branch library the successful candidate will work with colleagues at Library HQ on stock selection, maintenance and policy and will oversee the operation of Ormiston Library.
To supervise an Area Team of staff responsible for the delivery of front line customer and library services.

Essential: Educated to HNC or SVQ Level 3 in relevant discipline and/or able to demonstrate
equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
Will be required to undertake study to achieve Customer Service Professional Qualification
Award and/or Certificate level qualification within 2 years of appointment to post.
