An exciting opportunity has arisen within Business Finance for an enthusiastic Financial Accountant to join our team and take a lead role in ensuring the successful delivery of the Council’s statutory accounts and other financial reporting obligations. Key aspects of the role include calculating capital charges, producing main financial statements for the annual accounts and analysing and interpreting financial data in order to understand the implications for the Council.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and be responsible for the development and delivery of high quality financial advice and guidance. The Finance team is small and operating within an ever changing environment and therefore this role is suited to someone who embraces change and strives for continuous improvement. You would be joining a high performing Council who has recently received a positive Best Value report and secured a clean audit certificate for the 18/19 Accounts.

The office is based In Haddington in East Lothian, which has good public transport links and road travel is easily accessible from surrounding areas.

Job Details

As a key member of the wider Finance Team, the Financial Accountant will be expected to:

Take a lead role in ensuring the successful delivery of the Council’s annual statutory
financial accounts and its financial reporting obligations.

Take a lead role in ensuring the production of financial accounting information to enable
the Council to manage its resources appropriately.

Work collaboratively across the Finance Team and with Managers across the Council to
support them to manage the financial resources and assets as efficiently as possible,
providing appropriate financial advice and guidance to support service delivery and facilitate any future transformational change agenda.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Qualified accountant with membership of a CCAB (CIPFA/ACCA/CIMA/ICAS)
professional accounting body combined with substantial knowledge, skills and
competencies gained through experience in a financial environment.

The preferred candidate will be subject to a Standard Disclosure provided by Disclosure Scotland prior to a formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
