The Scottish Government has announced that by August 2020, all 3-5 year olds, and eligible 2 year olds, will be entitled to 1140 hours per year of funded (free) early learning and childcare in Scotland. Due to Covid -19 this was postponed and implementation of 1140 is being phased in between now and August 2021. East Lothian Council are now recruiting to Practitioner positions in our nurseries to enhance our well-established teams and support the expansion of the early years service.
This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a permanent Nursery Nurse (Practitioner) role within East Lothian Council.
Our aim is to provide child-centred Early Learning and Childcare (aged 2-5 years) which reflects and responds to individual needs and identity.
You will be joining our dedicated, highly skilled and well-qualified workforce and contributing to the work of each team in providing the best start in life for all children, their families and supporting work across the wider community.
You must be able to work both on your own initiative and as a team member who directly contributes to and supports colleagues in the development of a flexible childcare and early education service, which is appropriate to the needs of young children and their families, within the context of both authority and nursery policies and procedures.
You must be educated to HNC level in Early Education and Childcare or hold SNNB/HNC/SVQ3 qualifications in Childcare/Education or equivalent and be able to evidence additional learning and knowledge of current practice and legislation in relation to Early Learning and Childcare.

Please Note: these posts are due to start any time between now and August 2021 and jobs will be allocated as and when they become available. They will be based in settings moving to a 48 week service. Staff contracts will be full year – ie 52 weeks and part time being any number of hours up to 35 per week. Please indicate the maximum and minimum number of hours you can work per week on your application.
East Lothian are currently reviewing the job descriptions for Nursery Nurses (Practitioners) in order to ensure they reflect the changing requirements of the role and meet the needs of the new service models.

Educated to HNC in Childcare and Education or SVQ3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development (CCLD), or equivalent qualification.
SSSC registration or agreement to register within 6 months from the date of appointment to this post is essential.
