Curriculum Leader: Support for Learning

East Lothian Council seek to appoint a dynamic and experienced individual for the position of Curriculum Leader: Support for Learning, at Wallyford Learning Campus. The building will open for around 300 BGE pupils in August 2023, with a future projected pupil roll of 1000+ in S1-S6. The pace of expansion makes it likely that all leadership posts will be re-evaluated through job-sizing in due course, to reflect the rapidly increasing roll.

The new secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to pedagogy, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up to date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) plaza, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state of the art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus will go beyond the traditional classroom and encompass outdoor learning and sustainability. The campus also includes a number of community and health spaces to support collaboration between a range of professionals and sectors.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:

  • Lead and manage a large team of both teaching and non-teaching staff to meet the needs of learners, whether on an individual basis, within small groups, or as part of mainstream classes
  • Provide a range of qualifications appropriate to young people with ASN across the SQQ/SCQ Frameworks
  • Work alongside subjects specialists to ensure inclusion for all within the development of exciting and challenging curricula
  • Support the DYW agenda by linking to workforce intelligence and vocational opportunities for young people to support sustained, positive destinations for young people with ASN
  • Successfully undertake a whole school responsibility for supporting ASN, including leading professional learning for staff, pupil learning of strategies and approaches, and family learning opportunities
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of the ways in which digital technologies can support young people with ASN
  • Exemplify the highest standards of learning, teaching and assessment to support the wellbeing and learning of all, with a clear focus on the voice of the learner to support excellence and equity
  • Make effective use of quantitative and qualitative data to self-evaluate and contribute to whole school approaches to raising attainment and promoting achievement, with a particular focus on the inclusion of potentially vulnerable groups
  • Provide their team with support and challenge, using coaching and mentoring approaches as appropriate to ensure continuous improvement
  • Build positive relationships with all members of the school community, including a particular focus on working with the associated primaries to ensure successful transition
  • Exhibit a commitment to ongoing professional learning with a focus on improving outcomes for young people

The successful candidate will be at the forefront of a growing school community and have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to young people’s lives. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a brand new community in which everyone can thrive.
