Would you like to help Fife’s Planning Service to keep winning awards? If you live in a world where you embrace change, look for better ways of doing things and have the technical and digital skills to plan develop and support our continuous improvement, we have a great role for you as a Planning Improvement Officer.

The post will provide an opportunity to work in a large Planning Authority which attracts a wide range of planning applications, whilst planning for the future of Fifers and leading on the Council’s response to the climate emergency.

The attractiveness of Fife to investors is creating significant levels of demand on all our Planning Service resources. To help us get the best possible for the future of Fife we need to keep improving how we do things, by working smarter. Listening to our customers, efficient processes and the best use of technology are key elements of how we will do this, so this new post will strengthen our improvement team to allow us to deliver more and improve faster.

The Person

If you meet the essential qualification criteria outlined below, we’d like to hear from you:

  • Educated to SCQF Level 8, which includes HND or SVQ Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Communication skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Partnership working skills.

We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals with a positive attitude to customer care. We would particularly welcome applicants with experience of working in a public sector environment who can demonstrate a level of competence and knowledge of delivering change and improvement projects.

Applicants must meet the specified criteria of the post and must demonstrate this within their application.


We are currently shaping our future workstyles however, in light of current advice, we are introducing blended home/office working that will include office access days each week with homeworking for the remainder of your working time.
