Justice Social Work Services aim to increase the availability of robust, community based interventions to ensure those in the justice system are supported in the most appropriate and effective setting. It aims to encourage rehabilitation, reduce reoffending and protect the public, leading to fewer victims and safer communities. The Justice Social Worker role may involve the Supervision of individuals who have been convicted of sexual and domestic offences, and those who may pose a high risk to the community.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking regular risk assessments and associated tasks in conjunction with partners including Police Scotland.
  • The preparation of Justice Social Work Reports for Court.
  • Preparation of reports for Parole Board, Scottish Courts Service, MAPPA, Scottish Executive Justice Department and Scottish Prisons Service.
  • Preparation of risk assessments and risk management plans as per service policy and ensure that these are rigorously implemented.
  • Robust management of Statutory Orders and Licences which will include the supervision of individuals convicted of sexual and domestic offences, and those who pose a high risk to the public.
  • Ensure that those supervised are subject to regular review (in line with National and Service Standards) and where appropriate chair these reviews.
  • Apply best practice principles to the development, implementation and review of individual risk management and supervision action plans that address offending behaviour.

The Person


  • The posts have a blended approach of working in the office, in the community, and from home. The pattern of working hours will be determined for individual remits and the needs of those we support and the team.
  • Previous experience of working within a Justice setting would be advantageous, however is not essential.
  • You must have knowledge and understanding of the Justice Social Work role, and be aware of National Outcomes and Standards.
  • We are a trauma informed, forward thinking service who strive to deliver a person centred approach. As such, it is essential your social work values are in line with this approach.
  • You must have excellent communication skills and be able to work well with partner agencies.
  • You should also be able to organise and prioritise your workload, and be confident with report writing.
  • While the role with be based in a team, you may be required to travel throughout Fife (and out with Fife on occasion).
  • You must have a Degree in Social Work or equivalent and you must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council
  • As this role requires SSSC registration, the successful applicant will have three months to apply for registration. If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months. More details are included in the role profile

Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
