Job Description

Glasgow Life is looking for a Senior Events and Operations Lead to join us on a full time, fixed term contract for a period of 2 years.  As Senior Events and Operations Lead you will be joining our in-demand events team during an exciting chapter of Glasgow’s events journey.

Glasgow Life is the strategic lead for events in the city and the team is responsible for investing to attract, create, deliver, leverage and grow major annual and one-off sports and cultural events in the city. The events team delivers high-profile events throughout the year, including Merchant City Festival, Glasgow Mela, the World Pipe Band Championships and Glasgow’s winter events. The team is preparing to deliver the UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023, European Capital of Sport 2023 and building a team to deliver the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024. Our team works on behalf of the Glasgow Events Board and acts as an initial point of contact for events coming to the city, working with local, national and international partners to maximise the benefits of events to the city and evolve, position and promote Glasgow as a world leading event destination. Events boost the city’s tourism economy and provide memorable moments for residents and visitors.

The role 
In our newly created Senior Events and Operations Lead role, you’ll be an integral part of the team by leading the operational delivery of the Glasgow Events Strategy across the team, organisation and city to maximise the economic, tourism and social benefits of events to Glasgow. Reporting to the Head of Events and working alongside the events team. The postholder will have a particular focus on leading the teams responsible for the delivery and growth of the city’s annual sports and cultural events portfolio, as well as leading the feasibility and bidding for major events to secure a future pipeline of one-off and recurring events.

The candidate 
As Senior Events and Operations Lead, you’ll need: 
• To be educated to degree level or equivalent senior level experience leading the planning and delivery of major events
• A successful track record in managing a multi-functional team to deliver major sporting or cultural events within a £multi-million budget
• An ability to build strong relationships and manage requirements of a wide range of stakeholders, across all levels and international jurisdictions
• Proven ability to lead innovation and change, including experience of varied event delivery models

This role will be based at 38 Albion Street, with stand hours being Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. The working pattern will ebb and flow with the planning and delivery of events across the year.
