Job Description

Glasgow Scientific Services is looking to recruit a highly motivated team player with a flair for development within the areas of food, agriculture and water chemistry.  You will join the laboratories management team and contribute to shaping the future direction of the laboratory. 
The role requires an individual with an attention to detail and a flexible management style that can tailor their approach to bring out the best within their team. You will be required to offer support and advise our extensive client base ensuring that their various needs are met as well as explore new markets for development.
You will be responsible for the development and management of the food, water and microbiology sections of the laboratory in conjunction with the sectional team leaders. You will also take the lead in developing and maintaining the LIMs system.
You must have an Honours Degree in Chemistry or an equivalent degree with a substantial level of analytical chemistry or Chartered Chemist (CChem) status.  Skills in chromatography and elemental techniques; method development and validation; problem solving and operational management are essential to the role.
Previous experience of procurement, Quality Systems and Health and Safety is essential together with knowledge of legislation relating to food, water and agriculture.  A working knowledge of 17025 and the associated requirements of an accredited laboratory are also required.
There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work towards gaining a Mastership in Chemical Analysis (MChemA) and on achieving the qualification will be expected to be appointed as a Public Analyst, Food Examiner and Depute Agricultural Analyst. The postholder will also be expected to join an on-call rota in support of hazardous materials incident response and advice to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
