Job  Purpose:     We are seeking a dynamic and resourceful executive with a proven ability to lead and inspire. With a clear and compelling vision for building upon the excellent education service delivered in the Highlands you will continue to drive forward improvements.  You will deliver robust strategic direction and engagement with stakeholders and develop a positive and effective interface with elected members.

Employment Package

Hours: The working hours and arrangements will be those which meet the service needs of the post. The normal working week is 35 hours between Monday and Friday but this is regarded as a minimum expectation for staff at a senior management level in the Council. You may be required to undertake work in evenings and weekends.

Leave: Annual leave entitlement is max 32 days per annum.  In addition, there is an entitlement to 7 days fixed public holidays.

Pension:  You will be automatically entered into the Local Government Pension Scheme which is one of the most generous pension schemes in the UK.  As a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme you will receive an excellent package of benefits, including a pension and a tax-free lump sum based on your career average when you retire.  The LGPS also provides valuable life cover and protection for your family.

Relocation: Up to £6,500 may be claimed under the terms of the scheme.

Political Restriction: The post is defined as being politically restricted and will therefore be restricted in terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, as amended by the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, and by the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990.

Requirements

  • possess the necessary qualifications to carry out the functions

    large public sector organisation;
  • have experience of leading and managing major change programmes
    within a large organisation;
  • have experience of leading and managing a large workforce or large
    number of related services;
  • have experience of setting up and working in high profile partnership
    arrangements with partners; and
  • have cognisance of the workings of Local Government, the current and
    futures issues to be faced and the financial, legal and political context of
    public sector management.
