A vacancy has arisen for a social worker in Midlothian’s health and social care partnership’s adult support and protection team. In addition to the asp team, adult social work services in Midlothian consists of specialist teams including older people, learning disability, physical disability/long term conditions, community mental health, substance misuse and duty teams.
The successful candidate will be a qualified council officer having completed the adult support and protection level 3 training and will ideally bring recent experience of adult protection work. This should include assessing whether or not the adult meets the definition of an adult at risk of harm. Ideally, they will have an understanding of timescales and be able to manage competing demands and expectations.
The adult support and protection team receives referrals from a range of sources. The pace of the work can fluctuate and the successful candidate can expect to have times where they will be working quickly under pressure and times when they will need to be self-motivated to maintain their records to the agreed standard and complete required paperwork.
This opportunity to allow the successful candidate the opportunity to develop existing knowledge and experience within a dedicated adult protection team.
The team comprises of a team leader, three social workers and a community care assistant who supports the council officer with inquiries into the adult’s finances, property and assets. The successful candidate will need to work well in a small, supportive team where there is an emphasis on developing the team’s experience of the application of adult protection legislation. They will need excellent communication skills to engage well with clients who present with a wide-range of issues.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to benefit from regular supervision from the team leader and there is an understanding that discussions outside of scheduled supervision are essential.
The job will be based in Fairfield House but in the current climate the team members are doing a mixture of home working and office based working as agreed with the team leader.
A degree in Social Work and registration with the SSSC as a Social Worker is essential a Diploma in Social Work with SSSC registration as a social worker is an acceptable alternative. Must have level 3 council officer training and have practiced as a council officer.

Based on you working 36 hours over 52 weeks per year the minimum actual salary for this position is £35,409.35 per annum.
