An exciting opportunity has arisen to join North Lanarkshire Council based in Fleming House, Cumbernauld.

We currently have an opportunity to join our Roads Structures Team.  This team is responsible for the management and maintenance of all road related structures across the council’s road network.  As a key member of the team you will be involved primarily in undertaking General and Principal Inspections of road structures such as road bridges, footbridges, underpasses, culverts, high mast lights and retaining walls.  You will also be required to inspect and monitor site works undertaken by external contractors and the annual bridge maintenance contractor to ensure that our public transport infrastructure is managed and maintained to current standards and codes of practice.

To be a success in this role you will require appropriate health and safety and technical knowledge, you will respond to service requests from customers and clients, assist in development and delivering programmes of work and projects. 

With extended relevant experience, you will be educated to SVQ Level 3, HNC Level or equivalent, in Civil Engineering or a relevant subject.  Equally important, you will be a confident communicator, be customer focused, be IT literate and have good problem solving and analytical skills.

You must have experience of structures and have a knowledge of health and safety matters and construction work practices.  A good communicator, you should have technical knowledge of an appropriate area of work.  A self motivated individual, you should be able to work under pressure to specific deadlines and directions, whilst working as part of a team.

You must hold a current driver’s licence as you will be expected to travel throughout the area of North Lanarkshire Council, outwith public transport routes.

The post is advertised as full time; 35 hours per week with a Monday to Thursday 8.45am to 4.45pm and Friday 8.45am to 4.15pm standard working pattern however, alternative working patterns can be considered and discussed at interview where necessary.
