Kirkwall Grammar School is one of the oldest schools in Scotland, tracing its history back to 1200 and our rich Norse heritage. These days KGS is a vibrant school of around 860 pupils with a catchment area which covers Kirkwall, the East Mainland, Orphir and the North and South Isles. Around 60 of our young people are accommodated in Papdale Halls of Residence during term time. The school building is modern, bright and well-resourced. Young people benefit from many opportunities within their wider curriculum including a strong tradition of music and creativity and a range of sports and outdoor activities. Orkney is a place of significant natural beauty, with a rich heritage. The old and the new collide where World Heritage Archaeological Sites look over sector leading renewables research facilities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled practitioner to take up the position of Principal Teacher of Guidance. Our House system comprises three houses, each made up of a core team of two PTs Guidance working alongside a DHT, Curriculum Support link and Skills Development Scotland adviser to meet the needs of young people as they move through the school. You will be committed to improvement and excellence and have a genuine interest in supporting young people to achieve their best. This will be reflected in a strong focus on positive outcomes for all young people as well as your own professional learning. You will have the ability to develop and sustain effective relationships across the school community, developing partnerships within and beyond our school.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and successful team who work in a collaborative and innovative way to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse body of young people.
