Roads and Environmental Services Technician – Operations

35 hours per week
Temporary for a period of up to 2 years
£26,045 - £28,582 (including Distant Islands Allowance)

We wish to appoint a temporary Operations Technician to assist the Roads and Environmental Services Operations team in the delivery of planned cyclical, reactive and emergency works across Roads and Environmental Services. This will include roads construction and maintenance together with the associated infrastructure, winter service, waste and recycling collections, waste transportation, environmental cleansing and burial services.

You will assist in the planning, organisation and management of all aspects of the Roads and Environmental Services activities covering the Orkney Mainland and Isles, including the Winter Service and Emergency response.

The Roads and Environmental Services Technician – Operations will participate in the standby rota for the delivery of winter services and emergency response.

You should be qualified to SVQ3 or equivalent in a construction, engineering or waste/environmental related subject. A CSCS Card and HAUC (Supervisors) Certificate would be desirable but is not essential as training will be given.

You will need to demonstrate effective communication skills.
You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney including the outer islands to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
