Environmental Health Technician - Fixed Term for 12mths - PKC07762

Pullar House, Perth

Perth & Kinross Council is looking for two motivated individuals with a solution-focussed, ‘can-do’ attitudes and excellent communication skills to join their busy Environmental Health Team for one year initially. They will be based in Pullar House, working alongside other Regulatory Service Teams, including Food/Health & Safety and Trading Standards. The post will involve blended office and home working arrangements as well as 'on site' duties.

The successful candidates will get the opportunity to undertake a rich variety of environmental and public health duties. They will promote and secure compliance with environmental and public health standards through engagement, inspection, education, investigation/monitoring and enforcement in a wide range of work areas including:

>nuisance investigations (noise/odour/dust/light)

>assessing private sector housing standards

>organising national assistance funerals

>dealing with pest complaints

>assessing licensing standards for caravan sites, houses of multiple occupation and events.

There may also be the opportunity to be involved in other aspects of the teams duties including air quality, infectious disease, planning consultations and food safety enquiries.

Candidates require to be a skilled individuals who can demonstrate initiative and take responsibility for decisions to achieve required results. They should have some administrative experience and have good communication and inter-personal skills.

The Individual

You will be passionate about improving the environment which affects people health, and will have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science-based subject.

It is desirable that the ideal applicant will has relevant  knowledge and experience, however the organisation also welcome applications from enthusiastic individuals  who are willing to undertake relevant training.

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, time management, communication, IT and people management skills with a solution-focussed, ‘can-do’ attitude.

You will be a team-player, but also a self-starter who is able to work under pressure with minimum supervision.

You will have the initiative, sound judgment, and confidence to work across all levels of the organisation and be able to form effective partnerships both internally and externally

A full driving licence is essential.
