This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join Legal and Governance as a Governance Support Officer.

This unique role will provide support to Democratic Services, the Records and Information Team and the Information Rights Team.  All three teams benefit from hybrid working, with office days based in the Council’s offices at 2 High Street.  

Democratic Services

The main duties in the Democratic Services team will include:

  • Support the running of hybrid Committee meetings through Microsoft Teams.
  • Use the committee management software CMIS to build committee agendas and update committee information.
  • Provide administrative support to the Council's clerking role, including drafting minutes and letters.
  • Provide support and assistance to elected members, including the operation of IT equipment and use of software.
  • Support to the Council's decision-making structures and systems.
  • Other general administrative and clerical duties associated with the operation of the service.

Records and Information Team

The main duties in the Records and Information Team will include:

  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) under the guidance of the Records and Information Officer.
  • Respond to new requests for site additions or changes in EDMS.
  • Ensure proper documentation and communication of implemented changes.

Information Rights Team

The main duties in the Information Rights Team will include:

  • Administration of all areas relating to requests for information made under freedom of information and data protection legislation.  This could also include helping to develop reports to monitor the Council's performance in complying with requests.

Skills & Experience Required

You will have:

  • Knowledge of administrative procedures.
  • Awareness of relative legislation.
  • Ability to learn how to use specialist management software.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels and maintain constructive working relationships/diplomacy in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage workload on a daily basis.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
