As a Pupil Support Assistant you will be responsible for supporting children and young people who have additional support needs to access the curriculum under the direction of teachers and senior managers.
Additional support needs encompass children with complex needs and include those with challenging behaviour and will be expected to support positive behaviour management programmes and contribute to personal learning plans. Other support may involve active learning, assisting pupils with intimate care routines when required, and supervising pupils in the playground or out of school events or activities.
We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate experience (paid/voluntary) of supporting children and young people with additional support needs.
A genuine interest in the development of children and their wellbeing is essential and the important qualities are empathy, patience and an ability to engage with children and young people.
Sensitivity is also required when dealing with any care routines and to respect confidentiality at all times.
Good communication skills and the ability to work flexibly as part of our small team are essential. An interest and enthusiasm for outdoor learning is also desirable, as we develop this important part of our curriculum.
Duties will include:
Operate reprographic equipment, collate and issue print materials.
Support the wider life of the school e.g. special seasonal events, organisation of parents’ evenings and prize giving.
Assist with management and maintenance of resources across the school.
Supervision of children in and out with school premises during learning times, intervals and lunchtime.
Assume specific responsibilities in agreed and planned procedures for emergencies.
Build good and trusting relationships with children and adhere to child protection and equalities legislation.
Attend to the personal needs of the children and assist in maintaining a healthy, safe and hygienic environment.
Provide support for children with specific health or medical needs where appropriate.
Provide first aid as required to children and staff.
Provide comfort and care for minor accidents, ailments or upsets, cleaning the pupil of excess body fluids or waste.
