The role of the Library Assistant is to provide customer service to Shetland Library users. This will include giving people assistance with reading choices, information, computers and e-services, and generally offering friendly and efficient service for all our customers. In addition, the jobholders participate in a range of other duties such as the ordering and processing of library stock, children's events and storytimes, or creating displays and promotional materials. Work may be assigned in public and school library branches or at library outreach events. Library Assistants report to a Senior Library Assistant or School Librarian for day-to-day matters and are line-managed by a Senior Librarian.

  • The grade of this post is E
  • Rate of pay in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.2415 per hour
  • Permanent Part Time post for 35.0 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year 
  • Hours of work include one back shift (12.30pm to 8pm) on a Monday or Thursday, with other days 9am to 5pm. Every second Saturday is worked - a day off is given during the week when a Saturday is worked. 
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made
  • A relocation package does not apply to this post
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
