Advertisement Details

The Roadworker / Plant Operator is expected to perform tasks, for which they have been suitably trained and certificated

These tasks will include but are not restricted to:

  • Operating major and complex plant and equipment.
  • Planning and undertaking roadworks.
  • Preparing risk assessments and communicating risks and controls to everyone on site.
  • Supervision of other operatives
  • Assisting with winter maintenance operations.
  • Ensuring the safety of the workplace and the public.
  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of policies, procedures, risk assessments, COSHH and safe working practices.

Any other duties as appropriate in connection with the delivery of a roads service.

  • Salary in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,397 per annum (pro rata) per hour
  • Permanent Full Time post for 37.0 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year 
  • A relocation package does not apply to this post
  • We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland 
  • The preferred candidate must reside in Unst or Yell
  • You must have the ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice and where public transport is limited
