Roads and Transportation and Fleet Services is seeking to appoint an Assistant Engineering Officer/Health and Safety Professional to be part of the Health and Safety, Training and Performance Team, based in Canderside Depot, Larkhall.
With responsibilities involving a workforce of approximately 200 manual workers across four operational depots, the successful applicant will be required to work as part of a team in developing and maintain the Health and Safety Management System including (but not limited to) ensuring workers observe safety procedures, wear the correct PPE, and use the correct equipment.
The successful candidate will assist with routine inspections, assessments, audits and investigations and will also be involved in the delivery of Health and Safety related toolbox talks/briefings from time to time, as well as any other duties required. The team is also responsible for developing suitable performance measures in order to improve operational efficiency and in conjunction with the Learning and Development team has responsibilities for ensuring our workforce are suitably trained for the activities they undertake.
It is desirable that the successful applicant should have an NHC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent), or a suitable Health and Safety qualification i.e. Nebosh, IOSH.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, motivated, committed and be able to work as part of a team. Applicants should be able to contribute positively to an improving safety culture and have a strong desire to bring about service improvement across the Roads Operational Service, in a range of areas including health and safety, training, performance and quality. Applicants will also have excellent organisational and I.T. skills as well as be able to demonstrate the ability to manage and prioritise a diverse workload. Applicants with experience of assisting in the development and implementation of Health and Safety management systems, and those with a training experience are particularly encouraged.
