Job Description

These posts provide an exciting opportunity to support West Dunbartonshire’s - HSCP Improvement agenda, and ensures that we continue to deliver on our commitment to The Promise for our children and young people.

Funding for these posts has been secured on a two year fixed term basis, until 31/12/24, for four independent reviewing co-ordinators.

The voice and right of our young people is at the heart of all that we do, and the role of Independent Review Co-ordinator with ensure those rights and voices are strengthened for all our children and young people who we look after.

We are seeking a creative thinker and leader who wants to support improvement in service delivery with and for children underpinned by trauma informed child centered values and approaches.

We are looking for applicants who possess a range of skills within the childcare sector to enable us to establish a strong focus on better outcomes for our children. The successful applicant will hold considerable childcare knowledge and experience and it is expected that they provide strong leadership in the monitoring and development of child centered plans.

It is an expectation that staff would hold solid knowledge in the creation of such childcare plans and be proficient in the legislative processes that surround children who are looked after. This would include a working knowledge of the protocols for permanence and a significant understanding of all the legal procedures, including the Children’s hearings and Court processes. 

You will also hold experience in the chairing and management of professional meetings and be proficient in dealing with conflicts that may present while carrying out such a task. Further to this, the post holder will be expected to ensure quarterly reports are produces to provide oversight of performance and contribute to a learning culture within the service.

Of significant importance, is the applicant’s ability to build relationships with all key stakeholders, operating as a pivotal member of the team around the child. You will hold an ability to maintain a focus on the child's best interests and will be a champion in ensuring that the voices of our children are listened to and that plans are reflective of those wishes.

You will provide a point of quality assurance and accountability for those children that you work alongside and there will be an expectation that you maintain a professional overview of plans and provide strong leadership in making sure those plans created are fully realised.

You will possess a good understanding of the desired outcomes as presented within The Promise and you will seek to thread those objectives within any agreed work that you are involved in.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975.

Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
