This post is based within the Advice Shop where the successful candidate will work to promote financial maximisation and alleviate poverty through advice and advocacy in the areas of welfare benefits/appeals, money/housing and energy advice.

The post holder will work in the Income Maximisation team working with particularly vulnerable older people, people with cancer, dementia and other long term health conditions who are facing financial difficulties or looking for information and advice about improving their long term financial outlook.

S/he will advocate on behalf of customers with other Council departments and third party organisations including representation at social security appeals

S/he will organise information events, deliver talks & presentations to relevant groups.

Experience giving money/debt, benefits, energy or housing advice is essential. A high level of research and analytical skills and experience in organising events and delivering talks and presentations is desirable.

Experience of working with vulnerable older people or seriously ill people is desirable.

The skills and experience you must have:

  • Knowledge of income maximisation and/or expenditure minimisation
  • Experience of providing advice and advocacy in a customer facing role
  • Experience of project development and/or management
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to use computerised record management systems to keep accurate customer records
