We are currently seeking applications for a Community Learning and Development Assistant Director within Education Scotland based in Glasgow, Livingston, Aberdeen or Dundee. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Education Scotland is the national improvement agency for Scottish education and an executive agency of the Scottish Government. Our role is to promote improvement through inspection and review, innovation and change, from the early years to adult learning and to provide support and challenge to the education system. The Community Learning and Development Standards Council (CLDSC) for Scotland is the professional body for people who work and volunteer in adult learning, community development and youth work. We are a member led organisation of approximately 3000 members and our strategic objectives are informed by the wider membership and directed by the CLDSC Executive and working committees. We are funded by the Scottish Government, with a ministerial approved Chair. Our core responsibilities are to:

• Deliver a professional approvals structure for qualifications, courses and development opportunities for everyone involved in CLD

• Maintain a registration system available to practitioners delivering and active in CLD practice

• Develop and establish a model of supported induction, CPD and training opportunities

Currently, the CLDSC is undertaking a range of projects to improve its reach and efficacy.The post holder will oversee operations whilst also having responsibility for driving and implementing change throughout the organisation. This is a high profile role which will require the post holder to actively manage and lead on a number of high profile projects whilst also communicating to senior colleagues and stakeholders through the dissemination of complex information and production and presentation of papers.

The post holder will represent the CLD Standards Council as required in dealings with other organisations and the Scottish Government. The post holder will also have responsibility for driving and co-ordinating the CLDSC’s logic model, in collaboration with the Director, and will have line management responsibility.

Essential Criteria

1. A CLD registered member of the CLD Standards Council with excellent people management and leadership skills and the ability to empower others to deliver high quality work to tight deadlines.

2. Proven ability to manage finite resources effectively and experience of overseeing multiple projects to achieve transformational change.

3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience of communicating complex and varied information to inform and influence decision-making.

4. Ability to discuss complex issues, negotiate, consult and broker agreements with a variety of stakeholders at all levels whilst maintaining relationships and service standards.
