For January 2023 The Glasgow Academy is seeking to recruit a Nursery Auxiliary for its site in Newlands, with the position split between the TGA Newlands Prep School and Newlands Nursery. Experience of cleaning and working with young children would be advantageous but not essential. The ideal candidate must be flexible, enthusiastic and reliable and be willing to work as part of an established team helping to create a welcoming environment for the children in our care.

The hours will be 10am-2.15pm, Monday to Friday term time, the position is split between the TGA Newlands Prep School and Newlands Nursery.

Duties will include:

For the Prep School:

· Tidy kitchen, empty dishwasher

· Check the children’s toilets and make sure toilet paper and hand towels are available

· Check the Cleaners’ Shed and advise the School Secretary if anything needs to be ordered

· Cover morning playtime

For the Nursery:

  • Set up lunch tables for Nursery and Kindergarten children, this includes setting with knives, forks and cups
  • Check all toilet areas and replace soap and paper towels
  • Wipe down and refill hand sanitisers
  • Wipe down frequently used areas i.e. buzzer system
  • Help Nursery and Kindergarten children with their lunches and when required hold the door open as they arrive and leave the lunch hall
  • Remove the children’s dishes
  • Clean all tables and benches using the correct procedure
  • Prepare tables for school children arriving
  • Help the school children with their lunches
  • Once school children have finished their lunches all tables and benches to be cleaned
  • Put all tables and benches away in the table trolley located in the meeting room
  • Tables, benches and table trolley must be thoroughly cleaned once a month
  • The Nursery and Kindergarten toilets and sinks to be cleaned and all bins to be emptied daily and when required the bins washed out
  • Complete any washing tasks for example face cloths, material aprons and any other laundry
  • Ensure utility room is kept tidy and clean at all times
  • Clean Nursery staff room fridge weekly
  • Advise Nursery Manager/Administrator of any resources that require to be purchased i.e. cleaning fluid, also when paper towels, blue roll and bin bags are required to be ordered from the janitors
  • Pick up any Nursery shopping when required

On occasion there may be a requirement to open up or close the buildings for special events, which may be early morning/evening, for which extra remuneration will be paid.

The appointment will be dependent upon a successful enhanced Disclosure Scotland check, successful completion of an on-line pre-employment health questionnaire and receipt of two satisfactory references.

Remuneration

£8,883 per annum
