Our organisational strategy is aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and our globally recognised researchers advise governments, industry and international bodies. We’re ranked fifth in the world and first in the UK for promoting gender equality, 69th globally for social impact, and the top modern university in Scotland for research power. In 2020-21, we contributed £1.7 billion and more than 14,000 jobs across the globe.

GCU is committed to widening participation, delivering positive outcomes for our students, and we’re Scotland’s leading provider of Graduate Apprenticeships. With campuses in Glasgow, London and New York, we have transnational partnerships around the world, supporting more than 22,000 students. Guided by our inspirational Chancellor, Dr Annie Lennox OBE, and guided by our values – integrity, responsibility, creativity and confidence - we transform the lives of the people and communities we serve.

Glasgow Caledonian University’s IT department is a central professional service department that provides IT services to all GCU campuses across the UK and USA.  The Information Technology department supports the University by delivering technology-based services for research, teaching and learning, to enable on and off-campus learning and engagement.

The main purpose of this role will be to lead the Development team within Corporate Applications, ensuring solutions are aligned with the university’s strategies, plans and architecture; and that they are rigorously assured. The role will ensure the technical delivery of all development projects and work packages undertaken by Corporate Applications, with clear governance and tracking.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of working with methodologies and tools such as Waterfall, Agile, Prince 2, Kanban and ITIL, alongside the ability to understand and contribute to the technical solution from design, through to code level.  They should hold a degree and/or have the ability to demonstrate relevant software development lifecycle experience, with experience in the usage of enterprise reporting using products such as Power BI and/or SOA.  They should also be experienced in people management, with strong, demonstrable experience of coaching, motivating and mentoring teams, while possessing the appropriate skills to communicate effectively with senior management, other schools and departments.

Ideally, the candidate would have practical experience of System Modelling, and the ability to maintain a good working knowledge of existing and emerging legislation, regulations and industry technology standards.
