The Directorate of School Professional Services provides support for three Academic Schools. The Directorate covers Registry, Technical Services and Administration teams. The focus of the directorate is to provide an outstanding service to all our users supporting and enhancing the student experience.

Technical Services are now seeking a flexible, motivated Technical Assistant to support the delivery of GCU programmes in our Engineering Department. As a Technical Assistant, you will undertake a wide range of practical electrical/electronic activities to support learning, teaching and assessment within the Department.

While working within a well-established team of technicians, the role holder will be required to adhere to established procedures and deliver support for the day to day operational needs of our electrical and electronics laboratories. Good IT skills would be advantageous.

As a Technical Assistant, you will also contribute to the development of a “one team” culture by embedding teamwork as part of your core ethics as well demonstrating commitment to the GCU values.

Candidates should have completed an HNC/HND (Higher National Certificate/Diploma) in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with a degree being desirable. With the ability to work individually and as part of a team, we will be looking for excellent oral and written communication skills. Essential criteria include experience of construction and installation of electrical systems; design and construction of electronic circuits using a range of electronic components; electronic/electrical equipment fault diagnosis and maintenance and the ability to work using own initiative with minimal supervision when required. An understanding of relevant health and safety policies/procedures is also required.
