Job Description

A knowledgeable and team focused financial professional, you will provide general accounting and administrative support to the accountants in the financial and management reporting sections. In addition to this, you will support the university's 13 schools and assist several on-site support departments.

Educated to HND level in an accountancy based subject. You will have experience of working in the financial or management accounts sections of a busy finance department. It is essential that you have working knowledge of the use of Excel and Windows based financial software.  Previous experience within a Higher Education or a public sector environment would be advantageous but not essential.

Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.

Applicants for this position will work 15 hours over Mondays and Tuesdays.

Requirements

RESPONSBIBLE TO: Financial & Management Reporting Section Accountants

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility

PURPOSE OF THE POST: To provide general accounting and administrative support to the Accountants in the Financial & Management Reporting section and to provide general financial support to Schools and Departments

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Calculation of monthly accruals and prepayments
Calculation of monthly deferred and accrued income
Assist in the preparation of the monthly management accounts pack
Assist in preparation of Statutory Accounts packs for University and Subsidiary Companies
Assist with quarterly financial reviews
Set up financial records for research and commercial projects
Liaise with schools/departments to ensure the effective administration of all project related activity
Check invoice requests to project paperwork and organise to be signed off and processed
Process monthly overhead and cost recovery journals
Clearance of suspense accounts on a monthly basis
Assist with budget preparation and monitoring
Collate and input to financial system and reconciliation of annual budget and forecasts

Other Duties:
Deal with day to day financial enquiries from schools and departments
Maintain general ledger coding
Undertake any other relevant duties which are consistent with the job purpose
