As an Online Learning Developer, you will play a key part in enacting this commitment – working alongside academic colleagues to implement institutional standards and advancing the quality and distinctiveness of the School’s course portfolio.
You will play a key part in supporting the rapid development of the School’s portfolio of online programmes. You will support both academic and support staff in the production and delivery of high quality learning materials across a variety of platforms which advance the School’s reputation for quality in learning and teaching.
With a degree in a relevant subject area, you will possess significant knowledge of instructional design techniques and experience of applying these to design and develop effective, engaging online course content and assessments.
You will have experience in instructional design, creating interactive online materials. You will be experienced in providing first line technical support together with specialist knowledge of E-learning, audio/video editing, and advanced knowledge of MS Office and HTML. Experience in IT support for research and/or commercialisation activities would be desirable.

Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of School
RESONSIBLE FOR: No Supervisory responsibilities
PURPOSE OF POST: Support the development and maintenance of E-learning in the School of Pharmacy and Life Sciences. Support both academic and administrative staff in the production and delivery of learning across virtual environments and demonstrate a pro-active approach to implementing new software and hardware, as necessary, to fulfil project needs across the school.
• Carry out designated instruction through a variety of tutorials, workshops and virtual platforms.
• Provide expert support with technology enhanced learning to both staff and students.
• Lead the development, preparation and assessment of e-learning materials (including online assessments).
• Develop and maintain expertise in the field of technology enhanced learning.
• Contribute to subject, course and module development from a technology enhancement perspective.
• Contribute to curriculum development and the introduction of new teaching and learning methods related to technology enhanced learning.
• Participate in marketing and School events.
• Maintain good working relationships with other schools and departments, in particular ITS and DELTA, to support the development of technology enhanced learning across the university.
• Evaluate approaches, taking account of student and staff feedback • Actively participate in staff development activities.
• Establish and maintain relevant industry links, as necessary, in order to fulfil the duties of the role.
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
First Degree in Computing or related subject area
Knowledge and skills
Knowledge of audio/video editing including the use of Adobe Creative Suite for Videos/Voice overs, animations and diagramming.
Ability to work within teams across the School and the wider University.
Ability to prioritise workload.
Ability to perform calmly under pressurised situations.
Using software design and learning new skills to meet project requirements.
Experience of supporting learning and assessment design for either wholly online or blended learning delivery.
Experience of developing content within a Virtual Learning Environment and of using industry standard rapid content authoring tools.
First line technical support for staff/students for a virtual learning environment.
Experience of visual design.
Experience in the formation of user guidance and training materials, both ad-hoc and as project documentation.
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
Honours degree in Computing or related subject area and a teaching qualification/Experience
Experience of organising and delivering staff development and training programmes in IT.
Experience in Web design (HTML5, CSS3, JQuery).
Experience in maintaining and upgrading legacy software installations and applications, working with cross-disciplinary technical teams.
Experience using 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, Blender, Trimble Sketchup.
