Robert Gordon’s College is seeking a full time, permanent Teacher of PE to start on 28 October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The role demands a background in or willingness to teach rugby and experience in teaching a wide curriculum to Junior and Senior School pupils. The successful applicant will be expected to create an effective working environment which offers support and encouragement to all pupils. They will be expected to be fully involved in extra-curricular activities including coaching and organising sports to a high level.

The department comprises eleven full-time and two part-time members of staff; three full-time games coaches and variable numbers of part-time coaches termly, depending upon demand. In addition, the department employs a small team of part-time swimming instructors.

The PE department is involved in teaching a wide programme in both Junior and Senior schools. Currently all Junior School classes are taught co-educationally whilst S1 – S5 are taught in single sex groups. Higher Grade PE is offered co-educationally in the Sixth Year and has proved very successful.

The department is strongly committed to extra-curricular activities with a high standard of performance being produced at local and national level. In particular, in rugby, netball, athletics, swimming and in girls’ and boys’ hockey, the College has gained regular success and produced a number of international performers.

At our Schoohill site the PE department has two gymnasia and an indoor swimming pool. The indoor facilities will shortly be redeveloped in the College’s next major building project into state of the art facilities.

At our Countesswells site – a 39 acre purpose built playing fields complex situated three miles from school – there are eight rugby pitches, two floodlit astroturf hockey pitches, five grass hockey pitches, all-weather athletics and cricket areas, a 360 seater stand with a large hall underneath and a fully equipped pavilion.

Salaries will be based on SNCT scales together with a Robert Gordon’s Allowance. Candidates will be expected to contribute to take a full part in school life.
