ABOUT THE JOB

Police Scotland is the national organisation for policing with the purpose of improving the safety and wellbeing of people, places and communities in Scotland. The service is the second largest in the UK and covers over 28,000 square miles with a workforce of 23,000 officers and staff.

Police Scotland requires high standards of driving from the drivers within the organisation and we are seeking enthusiastic and experienced driving instructors to train and assess our officers and staff.

The primary role of a Police Scotland driving instructor is to instruct Police Officers and Police Staff in practical driving techniques and emergency response driving, including providing practical demonstrations and teaching a uniform system of car control (based on Roadcraft Manual).

You will be based at Force Training and Recruitment Centre, Jackton and have responsibility for assessing student performance using a range of methods and evidence, writing formal student assessments and other reports, providing counselling and agreeing action plans where required.

You will have responsibility for the daily care, maintenance and cleanliness of all vehicles used by the department and where appropriate, the transportation of vehicles to and from training areas and vehicle workshops.

We will also expect you to assist in preparing, reviewing and updating training materials in relation to existing or projected training courses to ensure delivery and content remains current. You will undertake course administration functions including the facilitation of training programmes.

ABOUT YOU

You will hold a full DVSA category B driving licence and possess previous training and experience of Police emergency response driving.

DVSA rules require that driving instructors teaching provisional licence holders to attain new licence categories must themselves have held a Driving Licence in the relevant categories for a minimum of 3 years.

As part of the selection process you will have to provide evidence that you meet the UK medical requirements for Group 2 licence holders.

This full time post is permanent and requires Standard Recruitment Vetting. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 08:30 to 16:30.
