The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of ICT Senior Engineer (Network/Comms), based at any of our ICT Workshops in Dundee, Hamilton, Inverness, Johnstone or Newbridge on a temporary basis until 4 October 2021. This is a full time opportunity, working 35 hours per week however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.


The Senior Engineer (Network/Comms)’ role is to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the communications and network infrastructures that support core organisational functions in line with the industry standard ITIL framework. This highly technical role has responsibility for the design and development, implementation, monitoring, support and optimisation of the SFRS mobilisation, telephony and corporate networks and their associated systems. The post holder also has responsibility for the development, implementation, support and optimisation of communication and electronic equipment and devices. The post holder will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues in order to maximise the benefit of ICT network and communications infrastructure investments.


An HND in an ICT or Electronic Engineering related discipline or equivalent experience is essential, along with extensive experience in the development, implementation, monitoring, support and optimisation of telephony, Cloud, local and wide area networks.  A university degree in a related subject, along with Cisco accreditation and ITIL V3 Foundation are all desirable.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
