Barnardo's Child and Family Support Service are on the lookout for flexible and enthusiastic people to join our team providing as and when support as personal assistants. We currently have opportunities for as and when personal assistant posts providing enabling support to children/young people in the Dundee area. These supports can provide the opportunity for longer term relationship building with children and families.

The role is varied and includes supporting children and young people with a disability/additional support need within their local community during after school time, evenings, weekends and school holiday periods. The support is generally provided on a weekly basis but can include twice weekly support depending on the tailored support plan for the child/young person.

It is essential that the successful candidate holds a full driving licence and has a car to allow for access to a variety of activities/groups in the Dundee area.

You will experience job satisfaction and play a significant part in making a difference in the lives of the children and their families, supporting them to build self-esteem and provide opportunity for them to socialise with their peers and engage in their local communities. The support provides much needed respite for carers to have time away from their caring roles.

Candidates should have the following:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Engagement skills
  • Practical, creative & fun
  • Solution focused approach
  • Experience in working autonomously (1:1 direct support)
  • Team player
  • Caring and patient
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Undertake personal care (as appropriate)

The role may include supervisory responsibilities in regard to volunteers.

Applicant MUST have experience in working with children and experience with disabilities/additional needs.

A relevant qualification is required, for example SVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject.

If this sounds like you then we would love to hear from you!

Please refer to the Additional Information Sheet for more detailed information about the position.
