NHS Research Scotland promotes and supports excellence in clinical and translational research in Scotland so that patients can benefit from new and better treatments.

Formed through a partnership of Scottish NHS Boards and the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) of Scottish Government, we work to ensure that NHS Scotland provides the best environment to support clinical research.

Our Objectives:

An overarching aim of NRS is to ensure NHS Scotland provides the best environment to support clinical research. As such all Health Boards have a range of specific, measurable objectives which are measured on an annual basis.

  • Increase total income from both commercial and non-commercial studies
  • R&D permission within 30 calendar days
  • Increase recruitment to commercial and non-commercial studies
  • Recruit first commercial study patients within 30 calendar days of gaining NHS permission
  • Increase the percentage of commercial studies recruiting to target
  • Ensure Research and Development is given prominence within the wider activities of the Health Board.

Meeting these objectives has wider health and wealth benefits to Scotland.
