Background

PKAVS is a leading charity in Perth & Kinross, enhancing lives and connecting communities through diverse services in the areas of Carers, Mental Wellbeing, Minority Communities, Third Sector support and Volunteering. Every year PKAVS enhances the lives on over 5,000 local people, helping them to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. PKAVS is also the Third Sector Interface for Perth & Kinross, supporting and developing the Third Sector and enhancing the Sector's role in Community Planning.

PKAVS Carers Services supports unpaid Carers of all ages who are living in Perth & Kinross and caring for family, partners or neighbours. Our trained staff and volunteers help over 700 adult carers retain a life outside of caring and develop skills or interests to enhance their own lives. PKAVS uses a holistic approach in working with people who have caring responsibilities and their families to assess and plan support. Supports can include access to training, respite services, information & advice and support groups.

PKAVS is at the forefront of a multi-agency Carers Hub approach that was introduced for unpaid carers in Perth & Kinross in 2015. The Hub approach enables a high profile single point of contact for carers' referrals to access assessments, support plans and information and advice. The Hub is available through a multi-agency website (www.pkavscarershub.org.uk) and locally through Carer Support staff working in localities throughout Perth & Kinross.

Role

PKAVS Carers Hub supports unpaid carers of all ages cope with an often all-encompassing caring role at home. One of the ways PKAVS offers support is through the development and delivery of Respite opportunities. This can mean a break away with or without their cared for person or it can be something as simple as attending a 45 minute complementary therapy session once a month. Often the respite requested is very specific to the carer and how they feel they would best benefit from some respite. PKAVS has a number of respite projects already in place and are looking for someone to help develop and deliver these services going forward.

Ideally the candidate will be qualified to degree level.

The key objectives of this post will be:

  • To develop and deliver the existing support and respite tools offered at PKAVS.
  • To ensure that the multi-agency Carers Hub website is kept up to date and relevant.
  • To increase access to information, advice, respite and support for unpaid carers in Perth & Kinross.
  • To increase early identification of unpaid carers requiring respite breaks through the wide promotion of the Carers hub as their first point of contact.
  • To develop partnerships with local organisations to increase respite opportunities for unpaid carers in Perth & Kinross.
  • Developing existing respite opportunities and identifying new areas of opportunity.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should be able to demonstrate high standards of written skills, as the post requires you to produce formal reports and maintain records.
You will be highly motivated and confident in building strong internal and external relationships. You will be able to proactively both independently and as part of a team.

Offers will be made subject to satisfactory references and eligibility to work in the UK.
