The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is currently seeking to recruit a Communications Officer to join her team who are based in Hamilton.

This is an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic, self-motivated individuals to work in a fast paced environment within a growing progressive organisation.

The PIRC was established in 2013 and is responsible for carrying out independent investigations into incidents involving the police and independently review the way the police handle complaints from the public.

Our aim is to secure public confidence in policing in Scotland by supporting continuous improvement and promoting positive change.

The successful candidate will support the Commissioner and Head of Communications in the planning and delivery of the PIRC communications strategy, both internally and externally.

As a Communications Officer you will assist in the promotion of the work of the PIRC through a variety of communications channels designed to increase public awareness and understanding of the Commissioner’s role and remit. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will be a member a team working on a wide variety of projects including the publication of Corporate publications and Complaint Handling Review and investigation reports. The post holder will provide an in-house copywriting, design and editing resource for colleagues producing internal and external reports and other materials.

You must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following specific duties (see candidate information pack for full details):

· To provide media support, when necessary, to staff in the Investigation, Review and Corporate teams

· To develop and promote the work of the PIRC using digital media

· To develop and update content for the PIRC website and staff intranet

· To support senior staff in drafting, distributing and publishing internal staff messages and materials

· To develop in-house Corporate publications and design materials promoting the work of the PIRC

Successful candidates should have a good general education with a qualification in communications or marketing and a minimum of one years’ experience working within a communications environment in a similar role. The successful candidate must also have proven experience of delivering a range of high quality communications materials, including website and staff intranet articles, corporate reports and in-house publications.

You will be required to be occasionally on-call and be prepared to work unsocial and extended hours where required. An additional remuneration allowance is payable for this work.

The position is based in Hamilton, although due to the current COVID pandemic staff are currently remote working. Please note the successful candidate must undergo vetting and Security Clearance (SC) prior to appointment.
