Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland.

Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people, and with an annual budget of around £60 million, Public Health Scotland provides authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It leads the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and contributes to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence.

The Place & Wellbeing Directorate of PHS is seeking to appoint a Health Improvement Manager (Band 7 - permanent) to work within its Public Mental Health Programme

The role will manage and develop complex projects within a range of portfolios to deliver a range of collaborative work streams that will ensure a cohesive and coordinated approach to the reduction of health inequalities and improve population health and health equity, in order to support the organisation in the delivery of delivery plan outcomes.

The post-holder will be based in the Public Mental Health programme with possible tasking across other areas of Public Health Scotland as well as a range of policy makers and public health/health protection service providers and stakeholders across all sectors in Scotland and beyond. Salary placement will start at the bottom point of the scale unless individuals have previous NHS experience.

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service
