Prison Officer Careers

The SPS are looking for individuals with a genuine desire to help and support others to join our organisation as Prison Officers within our various establishments across Scotland.

You don’t need experience of working within a prison environment to become a Prison Officer, what you do need is a commitment to the SPS Values and the belief that you can make a difference to the lives of those within our care.

A career as a Prison Officer is both challenging and rewarding and you might be surprised by the wide variety of tasks and responsibilities our Officers carry out on a daily basis. You can join the SPS at two different entry levels; Operations Officer or Residential Officer. The Operations Officer role focuses on providing security support to the establishment, whereas the Residential Officer role has a greater focus on supporting those within our care directly to desist from re-offending through the provision of day-to-day support and longer term case management.
