About the role
We are looking to recruit to the role of Finance Officer within our shared service accounting team.
We provide a shared service to the SSSC and Care Inspectorate. This role is focused on finance support to the SSSC and will be employed by the SSSC.
As part of the shared service finance team, you will support the Head of Finance and Senior Accountant to deliver a cohesive shared finance service for the SSSC.
Working in a busy team you will:
- help in the monthly budget monitoring process by compiling information and holding meetings with your own budget holders
- assist the production of our annual budgets
- support the production of the SSSC statutory annual accounts
- carry out monthly balance sheet and other reconciliations
- compile information for financial or statistical returns
- help train and develop finance and non-finance staff.
Who we are
We are the independent regulator for social service workers in Scotland. Our work means the people of Scotland can count on social work, social care and early years services being provided by a trusted, skilled and confident workforce.
We protect the public by registering social work, social care and early years workers, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct, we can investigate and take action.
The Care Inspectorate is the national regulator and scrutiny body responsible for providing assurance and protection for people who experience care services, their families, carers and the wider public, as well as supporting delivery partners to improve the quality of care for people in Scotland. Their vision is that people across Scotland experience high quality care that meets their needs, rights and choices.
Although you will be part of a shared service team providing services to both the SSSC and CI, your contract of employment will be directly with SSSC.
What you need to succeed
We are looking for someone who:
- holds a relevant HNC or equivalent Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) qualification or degree or have significant experience in a similar role
- can demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of accuracy and attention to detail
- has organisational skills helping you to prioritise and manage your own workload
- is a strong communicator and able to demonstrate commitment to excellent customer service
- is able to work on your own initiative and with minimal supervision
- has excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- is able to work flexibly as part of a team.
Why work for us
We are an ambitious, enthusiastic and supportive organisation. With around 300 employees, you can really make an impact here. We offer a generous salary, flexible working arrangements, a full range of benefits, local government pension scheme and up to 43 days holiday (dependent on service). Please note new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range.
You can find out more about the benefits of working here on our website.
Our office is in Dundee but this role is home based at the moment as we develop our agile working policy. We encourage remote working and support a less office-based format. We are happy to discuss individual arrangements and consider agile working as an option. This is, dependent on job requirements (such as being in the office for training events and meetings etc) and meeting the eligibility criteria determined by the new policy.
