SMK CARE SERVICES

As part of our commitment to diversify our services in line with national gaps in the provision of services to vulnerable young people, SMK Care Services are opening the first diversion from secure care unit for girls. In December 2017, the Board of Directors at St Mary’s Kenmure commissioned a scoping study to be carried out by CYCJ (Centre for Youth and Criminal Justice) to ascertain if there was a need in Scotland to have a unit that diverted young girls from secure care; the response was overwhelmingly in favour of this. This unit will work with girls on the edge of secure care and provide a range of specific and needs led interventions.

Work will commence on the refurbishment and renovation of an existing building on the same grounds as St Mary’s Kenmure in early October. We are at the stage in the journey when we are looking to recruit the staff required to work with our young girls in this unit.

Our “Diversion from Secure Care for Girls” will offer a caring, therapeutic and nurturing environment for the care of young girls, who are referred from the Children’s Hearings system. This is a National resource and therefore our girls will come from all over Scotland and are cared for on an individual basis, depended on their own unique and individual needs. Our work will be undertaken in a very comfortable bespoke and purpose built accommodation, with staff using the latest innovative approaches and interventions.

Each young person is entitled to and will receive a high standard of care from our large team of experienced and qualified staff who strive to meet their needs and ensure our girls health and wellbeing. We also offer a wide range of therapies, with interventions designed to offer our girls the opportunity to learn and develop during their stay. Given the intentional high numbers of staff that are available, we are confident that the individual needs of all our girls will be met through utilising the skills of a well-trained and highly motivated team.

For the role of Unit Manager, we are looking for a dynamic, inspiring individual to lead our team. You must possess strong leadership qualities that will motivate, encourage and inspire the team of staff around you. You must have a range of both Professional and Personal qualities including excellent communication skills. You will require to possess a good understanding of gender specific interventions as well as having a good knowledge base of what issues or concerns are prevalent for vulnerable and high need young girls who have experienced significant trauma in their lives. We are looking for someone who has the resilience to cope with challenging situations and has experience of trauma informed practice with girls. You must hold a Social Work qualification or an equivalent award that is recognised by the SSSC, and a PDA qualification is essential. You must also be registered with or eligible to be registered with the SSSC.

SMK Care Services “Diversion from Secure Care Unit” is located Bishopbriggs, North of Glasgow. It is in commutable distance of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling.

The salary for the post is £46,770 – £48,250, (dependent on experience), is based on 37 hours per week and inclusive of an on call allowance.

If you feel that this is, the challenge you have been waiting for and you want to join a team of professional and caring people then please apply using the attached application form.
