About Us

Edinburgh’s cycle hire scheme offers visitors and residents alike a unique and wonderful way to explore and experience the capital in a simple and affordable way. The network of cycle hire locations across the city is being continually expanded with 65 hire points currently on Edinburgh’s streets, with plans to grow further.

In order to support the growth of the scheme in the city, a small team are being recruited to focus on raising awareness of the Edinburgh Cycle Hire Scheme by encouraging its use and support for the scheme, through a programme of community outreach activity. This will include developing relationships with local organisations which promote active travel, social inclusion, and environmental choices.

The team will be employed by Transport for Edinburgh and include a Team Leader and an Officer role. You will be based at TfE offices at the City Chambers, High Street and will report into the Senior Officer for the Edinburgh Cycle Hire Scheme.

About the role

The Team Leader of the Edinburgh Cycle Hire Scheme will be responsible for coordinate a programme of raising awareness and working in partnership to promote the scheme in order to help develop support for the scheme. Key responsibilities are:

· Coordinate presence at and attend events where active travel messages can be shared, including Community Events, Open Streets Events, Neighbourhood Events, City Wide Events and National Events

· Organise the offer of support to Employers – on how to use the scheme and ride training

· Coordinate cycle training and awareness sessions, using Edinburgh Cycle Hire scheme bikes.

· Work with Edinburgh Localities Teams, Neighbourhood Partnerships and Community Police to identify a range of opportunities and identify options to develop a strategy of engagement with groups that have the same demographic as those who have vandalised the Edinburgh Cycle Hire scheme.

· Sign posting to further opportunities to participate in carbon reducing travel behaviours, led rides, events, workplace support for active travel and other carbon saving information.

· Engage with communities through schools, youth groups / clubs and other relevant groups on support and use of the scheme.

· Engage with Schools, Colleges and Universities to provide assemblies and demonstrations engaging with older children on how working with cycle scheme data, how to use the cycle hire scheme and the carbon benefits of transport choices.

· Promote decarbonising messages, including bikes as a means of transport, the value to the community of public access to bikes and how to use the bike as a tool to access the outdoors

· Support the ongoing development of outreach / community engagement surrounding Edinburgh Cycle Hire Scheme.

· Log and report activities as per funder’s requirements.

· To work with the Communications Team and programmes are communicated effectively to the media, supporters and wider population.

· To contribute towards raising the profile of Transport for Edinburgh, Edinburgh Cycle Hire, by representing the charity at meetings, activities and events, as required.

· To manage the Outreach Officer.

About You

Our ideal candidate would meet most of the following criteria:

· Educated to degree level or equivalent.

· Significant experience of project management and delivery of projects with a range of partners.

· Experience of delivering projects in the community, workplace or education setting through consultation, outreach or engagement.

· Experience of partnership working with local authorities, NGOs and/or local community projects.

· Experience of line management, support or mentoring.

· Experience of financial management and budget planning and identifying funding opportunities and completing applications.

· Experience of developing and delivering physical activity or other behaviour change projects.

· IT literate: competent user of email, internet and MS Office.

· Effective behaviour change activities and initiatives.

· Understanding of the benefits of cycling for everyday journeys.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with project partners, supporters and the general public.

· Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

· Community engagement and/or active travel event organising skills.

· Organised and efficient worker, with effective time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise and work to tight deadlines.

· Good leadership skills with the ability and enthusiasm to motivate others.

· Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision; enthusiastic and self-motivated.

· Proven ability to innovate and to deliver creative solutions.

· Marketing, promotion and communications skills with the ability to target specific audiences.

Salary & Benefits

This role is a one year fixed term contract. You will be paid £28,985 per annum based on a 37.5 hour working week.
